Can
you give me some general information about Southern
and the School of Business? What degrees are offered
by the School of Business?
Southern
Connecticut State University (SCSU) is part of the Connecticut
State University system. SCSU serves over 11,000 students.
Almost 90% of SCSUs students are Connecticut residents.
Approximately 5,000 of SCSUs students are full-time
undergraduates. Approximately 2,000 of the full-time
undergraduate students reside in campus housing.
The
SCSU School of Business serves approximately 1,000 students,
most of whom work while pursuing their education. The
School offers an undergraduate B.S. degree in Business
Administration with specializations in Accounting,
Business Economics,
Finance, Management,
MIS, and Marketing.
The Department of Economics and Finance also offers
a B.A. in Economics. At the graduate level, the School
offers an MBA and, for Accountants who must meet a 150-credit
educational standard, an MBA in Accounting.
The
School of Business also offers minors in Business
Administration,
Economics, Marketing, General Management, and MIS
for Non-Business Majors.

Is financial aid available?
Complete
financial aid information is available from the SCSU
Financial Aid site.
A
limited amount of financial aid is awarded by SCSU to
those students who can demonstrate financial need and
who apply for financial aid by the stated deadlines.
Financial aid cannot be viewed as the primary source
that a student uses to pay University charges.
The
types of financial aid available include grants
and scholarships, student loans, student employment,
federal work-study program, veterans benefits,
tuition waiver for veterans, and Connecticut National
Guard tuition waiver (full-time students). Click

How many semesters per year?
Courses
are available year round. There are two semesters, three
summer sessions and some additional special sessions.

What is the normal full-time course
load?
The
typical undergraduate course load is 15 credits.
In
order to complete a 122-credit program in four years
without going to summer school or wintersession,
it is necessary to take 15 credits each semester of
regular coursework. This totals 120 credits. The remaining
two creditsone in physical education and one in
healthcan be added to any semester.
The
122 credits can also be completed as a full-time student
by taking 12 credits during both the fall and spring
semeters with the remaining 6 credits picked up in some
combination of summer school and wintersession.

How do you apply for admission to the
School of Business? What are the requirements for admission?
Students
interested in the B.S. degree program in business administration,
whether a freshman or transfer student, should consult
a business faculty adviser or the Deans office
(Seabury Hall, 203-392-5630) for assistance. Although
any faculty member in the School of Business can be
consulted, it is recommended that you contact someone
in your area of interest. Please contact the appropriate
department to be assigned an adviser.

What are the application deadlines
for Southern and the School of Business?
University
admissions. Candidates should complete applications
for admission by May 1. The University officially mails
all formal acceptance notifications beginning December
1 of each year. Please click to Application

School
of Business Admissions:
Normally,
application is made at the end of the sophomore year.
Transfer students must complete 15 credits of academic
work at the University before applying for admission.
