FAQs

How many credits do I need to take each semester to be a full-time student?
12 credits

How many credits do I need to take each semester in order to finish in four years?

For full-time students: 15 credits. In order for a full-time student to finish the 122 credit business degree (124 credits for Accounting) in four years—without going to summer school--it’s necessary to take 15 credits per semester. (This will be slightly different for Accounting majors because of having to take two 4-credit courses.) The two credits in physical education (1 credit) and health (1 credit) can be added to any semester.

The 122 -124 credits can also be completed as a full-time student by taking 12 credits during both the fall and spring semester with the remaining 6 credits picked up in some combination of summer school and wintersession.

For part-time students: It varies. Part-time students put together a variety of credit-load programs depending on their funds and personal schedules. A maximum of 11 credits can be taken in either the fall or spring semester by a part-time student.

Can I get my business degree as a part-time student? Yes.

For transfer students

Students transferring from Central, Eastern, or Western Connecticut State University must follow the transfer admission process. All credits that have been completed with a passing grade are transferred to the University. Only up to 90 credits are accepted from a four-year college.

Students wishing to transfer from other accredited institutions of higher learning must have a 2.0 cumulative average. In addition, they should submit official transcripts of their previous college work sent directly by the previous college or university attended. Students should also be prepared to provide catalogs from the colleges they previously attended. Admission to the University does not necessarily mean admission to a professional program.

Students from Connecticut Regional Community Technical Colleges will be accepted for admission to the University if they have a 2.0 cumulative average. Students who meet this condition and who have also completed the Associate in Arts degree or the Associate in Science degree in transfer programs will be given credit for two years of college work, but must satisfy Southern’s University requirements.Students wishing to transfer into SCSU from any of the following community technical colleges should refer to the appropriate transfer equivalency chart.

Additional information describing non-traditional credit options may be found in the Division of Extended Learning.
